Mission Hills: Why to Visit

Mission Hills is a charming little neighborhood in San Diego.  An upscale, affluent area, Mission Hills is located on hills just south of San Diego River Valley and north of downtown San Diego.  Mission Hills overlooks downtown San Diego, Old Town, and San Diego Bay.  The area is primarily residential, with some boutique shops and restaurants. Pioneer Park and Mission Hills Park are two recreational parks within the neighborhood. The San Diego Public Library has a branch located on corner of Washington Street and Hawk Street called the Mission Hills Branch Library. If you go East, Mission Hills is within walking distance to the Hillcrest restaurants and shops to and if you go Northwest, within walking distance to the Old Town restaurants, shops, and museums.

Mission Hills has an upcoming Wolf in the Woods Project.  A sign has been posted on a small collection of commercial storefronts stating that the team has “joined together as a local veteran restaurateur, working mothers, small business owners, floral designer and a member of a long time San Diego produce family” with the intent of creating a “lovely, intimate and family friendly European Cafe setting that will blend harmoniously into the community”.

According to the owner, Wolf in the Woods will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner and feature quick-eats as well.  It will be organic and fresh food and is scheduled to open this August. Locals are excited for a new addition to the already delightful neighborhood.

Mission Hills also boasts the fun “Craftsman, Then and Now; An Immersion Experience” walking tour and symposium.  The talks will give an overview of original American craftsman homes built in the early 20th century.  It’s a perfect event for a neighborhood featuring many charming craftsman homes.

Right next door to Mission Hills is the beautiful HarborView Senior Assisted Living residence, a family-owned boutique assisted living home offering individualized care for people struggling with Alzheimer’s and dementia.   Visit their website today for a tour of the gorgeous grounds: http://harborviewsandiego.com/
